History of OOCL shipping lines

OOCL was founded by Cy Tung in 1947 with the name Orient Overseas Line (OOL).

In 2015, the OOCL had the largest six container ships at that time, capacity of up to 20,150 TEU each. In particular, Oocl Hong Kong, is the first container ship in the world to surpass 21,000 TEU, reaching the Guinness World Record.

In July 2017, the parent company Ooil, received an invitation to buy back worth US $ 6.3 billion from competitors from mainland China, Cosco shipping lines. The deal was completed in 2018.
