1. Requirements for mango export quality

Depending on the specific requirements for each class and the allowable tolerances, all fresh mango classes must:

The development and condition of fresh mangoes must be appropriate so that they can:

  • Continue the ripening process until the appropriate physiological maturity corresponding to the characteristics of the variety is achieved

Fresh mangoes are classified into three classes as follows:

  • Class I: Fresh mangoes in this class must be of good quality. They must be specific to the variety, slight defects are allowed, as long as they do not affect the appearance, quality, maintenance of quality and presentation of the product in the packaging: Slight defects in shape fruit + Slight defects on the skin due to sunburn or scratches, stains from sap (including long lines) and dark spots no larger than 3 cm2, 4 cm2 and 5 cm2 corresponding to size groups A, B and C.
  • Class II: Fresh mangoes in this class do not meet the requirements in higher classes but must meet the minimum requirements specified in 2.1. Fresh mangoes with the following defects may be allowed provided that the basic characteristics relating to quality, maintenance of quality and presentation of the product are still maintained: Defects in shape + Shell defects due to sunburn or scratches, stains from resin (including long lines) and dark spots not larger than 5 cm2, 6 cm2 and 7 cm2 correspond to size groups A, B and C, respectively.

  • Uniformity: Fresh mangoes in each package must be uniform and contain only fruits of the same size, quality, variety and origin. The visible portion of the fruit on the package must represent the entire fruit in the package.
  • Packaging: Fresh mangoes must be packaged to protect the product appropriately. The materials used inside the packaging must be new1), clean and of good quality to avoid any risk of internal or external damage to the product. The use of paper or stamp materials related to commercial requirements is permitted provided that the printing or labeling uses non-toxic ink or adhesive.
  • Packaging: Packaging must ensure quality, hygiene, ventilation and durability, suitable for loading, unloading, transporting by sea and preserving fresh mangoes. Packaging (or bulk product shipment) must be free from impurities and strange odors.
